Curly Hair Journey, The Beginning | April 2018

For a while now, I’ve been trying to deal with my hair. I grew it really really long and tried not to damage it with heat. I tried to take care of it very gently by washing it only once a week, only brushing it when I was going to wash it, and always braid it before I’d sleep. It worked good, but my hair was just really long, and wavy. It also was a bit frizzy, and I knew my hair was sort of curly, but it was just too hard to handle. First of because it was so long, and second because I just did not know how to deal with curly hair. Eventually, a co-worker (who has the most amazing curls) told me her curly hair routine. So I tried it, and my hair curled! I loved it. (and sorry for the weird pics, but my hair was just to long to fit on a normal selfie)

In November (2017), I decided to chop 10 cm of my hair. I was done with it, but too afraid to cut it short. Nobody noticed my hair was shorter tho, only it curled more and looked healtier. I got a lot of positive reactions, and I loved my ‘short’ and curly hair too. That was when I decided that I wanted to chop off more in spring/ summer. (on the left: my hair right after I came back from the hairdresser, on the right: my hair when I did it myself)

So last week, I decided to chop off 30 cm so I could donate my hair. I love the length of my hair know! It is just, that it is not as curly as I expected it to be. I feel like my hair was more curly when it was longer. My routine is: washing it with my Elvive Keratin Shampoo, using the Elvive Keratin conditioner, rinsing that out with cold water, scrunging my hair, drying it with a t-shirt, putting in mouse and curl cream and at last drying it with the diffuser. It gave curls and volume, but also quite a lot of frizz. (on the left: my hair right after the chop. My hairdresser always puts in loads of product, so it wasn’t frizzy at all, but I just don’t like the feeling of having that much product in my hair, it feels so greasy. On the right: my hair when I do it myself, also with a little bun what is not showing in the pic)

For a while, I was reading about the curly girl method, where you won’t use products with sulfates, silicones, alcohol, and try to use as less heat on your hair as possible. Today April 30th, 2018, is the day I started my own ‘natural curly hair journey’. This morning I went to the store to buy sulfate free shampoo, silicone free conditioner and a silicone free gel. The gel because I want to try a new routine I saw a Youtuber doing. I washed my hair for the last time with a sulfate shampoo to rinse out all the silicones in my hair, drained my hair in the silicone free conditioner, rinsed that out with cold water and scrunged in the gel on soaking wet hair. After that, I scrunged my hair a bit more and dried it with a t-shirt. It was also the first time I let my hair air dry.

I am really content with the result. My hair feels softer, is less frizzy and I can use fewer products. For the curls, I feel like my curls look quite the same, only that it curls maybe a bit more now. Not sure tho. I’m definitely going to continue with this routine/method. For now, I will keep using only conditioner and gel, but maybe in a while, I will try a silicone free mouse and cream. Of course, I will write about that 🙂

This is only the beginning of my ‘curly hair journey’ as the Youtubers call it. I am excited to take you with me! And I promise I won’t disappear again for another five months haha. Also, I want to capture my hair journey on my makeup instagram: @lifeasdaisyblog .  (If you want to see more outfit pics, follow my personal instagram: @daisyvdplas )

Thank you so much for ready, have a lovely day!

Lots of love xxx

2017

How fast did 2017 fly by. Oh god. Time definitely flies. Last year, I wrote a bit about what happened in my 2016. I actually quite liked that, as I am a lover of memories and throwback, so here is a little throwback to my 2017. 2017 was definitely a good year for me!

This year I turned 19, I celebrated my birthday in Hanoi, Vietnam with people I only knew one day. But it was one of the best birthdays ever. I had a gap year wherein I travelled through Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia for two months on my (almost) own. OH and don’t forget about London, Berlin, Budapest and Prague. The year I had a ‘full time’ job. The year I finally started college. And the year I moved out of my parent’s house to another city (where I come back way too much). Quite a lot of things have happened this year for me, and I’m happy with all of it. If it doesn’t bring happiness, you can learn from it, right? Yes, I’m thankful for what 2017 brought me.

Last year I made some new years resolution. Let’s see if I’ve achieved them!

  1. Post a blog every two days, or more often if possible – Maybe in the beginning, but since summer definitely not.
  2. Start the Spanish course – …. never started it oops
  3. Go to the gym every week or more (somewhere around Christmas it went wrong this year) – I actually did this before I left for Asia! And after also once a week maybe. But right now I don’t even have a membership anymore…
  4. Drink enough water – Yes achieved!
  5. Get enough sleep (8 hours or more) – Most of the times
  6. Spend less money on things I don’t need (this one is so hard haha) – Probably not
  7. Get into college – Getting in was easy, staying there is the new goal

Well, achieved 3 out of 7. And here are some new ones for 2018

2018 New Years Resolutions

  1. Eat less soup, try a properly cooked meal
  2. Pass all the exams and make it to the second year
  3. Travel loads if possible

Wish you all a Happy New Year! Let 2018 be a good one guys, may it be a year full of good memories, happiness and love xxx

Backpacking Preparations | Travel

2017-02-19-06-13-51-1

Hi,

In two weeks I will be leaving for my backpacking adventure to Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia. I already told a bit about it in this blogpost about my gap year update, where I also wrote about getting 100 followers on my blog. And guess what, a few days ago I reached 200! I can’t believe it was only a month ago that I reached 100, and now I’m already over 200 followers. Thank you so much guys for supporting and following me, it means a lot to me and I’m so happy, I’ve never expected it!

Okay, so in two weeks I’m in Bangkok, Thailand. I will be travelling there with a backpacking group, but I will make a post about that where I tell everything before I leave. I already knew that with travelling there also comes a lot of arranging, but I feel like that with destinations further away comes also way more stress. I mean, most of the times you go on a trip to somewhere in Europe, you don’t have to get vaccines,  extra travel insurance or to think about how less you bring with you to prevent a hernia. To clear my mind a bit, and to maybe help others who are in the same situation, here is a little TO DO LIST before you leave:

2017-02-19-06-11-22-1

PASSPORT

Make sure your passport is valid for a while, other wise it may be possible they won’t give you a visa or you aren’t possible to travel. Oh and DON’T FORGET IT!!

VISA

For some countries you need to do a little extra work to get a visa. In a lot of countries you can get a visa on arrival (for example Thailand and Cambodia), but there are some exceptions. For instance, to get a visa for Vietnam, you have to get a approval letter.

VACCINES

Also very important, better to be sure than unsure. Oh and try to schedule getting your vaccination in a week you don’t have to do much with your arms. It’s going to hurt for a while, not very pleasant. (I made this mistake hehe )

TRAVEL & HEALTH INSURANCE

Again, better to be sure than unsure. It’s a lot of money for something that you maybe are not going to use, but it will cost you more if you’re not insured and something happens to you.

BACKPACK

How can you go backpacking without a backpack?! Make sure you find the right one, one that fits nice on you and feels good. I still have to buy mine oops, but I already know wich I’m going to get.

PACKING LIST

Make a packing list, so you know what you want to bring, you don’t forget anything and what you have to buy before you leave. Don’t only make a list of the clothes you want to bring, but also of the essentials like sunscreen, deet, travel plug etc. And try not to bring too much! This is going to be hard for me haha, but I have to remember I have to carry it everytime and I don’t want to end up with a hernia.

Well, these are the things I’m keeping myself busy with at the moment. Most of the things can already get checked of the to do list, so I can focus on reading about the culture and planning the things I want to see. I’m very excited, but also a bit nervous. This will be my first trip ever all alone, but it will be a great experience. I will post more preparing post as in the next two weeks.:)

By the way, have you seen my new header? I’m so happy with it! I am blogging for a few months now, and I finally made my own personal header. (it took me pretty long to finally start making one oops)  I love the pink and the daisy flower, it’s so cute.

Thank you so much for visiting. Have a lovely day!
